I first did not know what to except from Grihastha and was a little apprehensive about spending 24 hours in the workshop, but Krishna Sharma sir made the atmosphere quite friendly and fun. We never noticed the time passing.
The topic of learning to know the basic color or basic motivations of a child is very interesting. Krishna ji took all the efforts to explain the concepts.
There has been a lot of thought put into developing the system and concept of Colors and, based on the study of a number of fields, such as social sciences, management, spirituality and particularly Indian philosophy.
Krishna ji has distilled the concepts to a simple, understandable form with practical applicability. The pace of the class is crisp and keeps you engaged without becoming too abstract.
The idea that that we all have a core identity with some activities that we enjoy inherently, that leaves us energized is easily understandable to most of us.
He also emphasizes we learn other skills for survival and every task is a combination of survival and aspects that align with our identity.
Recognizing that our children may identify with different things and different aspects in the same situation is important to develop our own empathy. Developing our own empathy helps us, be able to communicate and maintain a connection with our child.
The "Know your child" workshop is geared towards helping you identify your child’s core iColor or with what he/she may most keenly identify and what motivates them.
Understanding this, naturally has many advantages as being able to communicate in a manner that makes most sense to them, being able to guide them towards activities that may best suit their interests and manage our own expectations as regards our children.
While the "Know your child" workshop has some practical advice, it is not a magic bullet or panacea. It does grant you tools to apply to your parenting , but requires effort on our part.
On the surface they may seem like some very simple ideas, but as Rabindranath Tagore said, “To be happy is simple . To be simple is difficult.” But this an important idea and tool that can be very helpful with practice.
Although, "Know your child" is geared towards raising children, the same concepts can be applied to all relationships. While the concept of different color types is very interesting, it is also fun to try and determine different qualities and how it applies to yourself, child and people you know. Thinking about the course, the following lines came to me,
Red,yellow,green and blue
Four personalities ,distilled true,
Yet in the many shades and hues,
Lies great complexity anew,
Perhaps the basis to plant a foundation sound
Even as the questions, queries abound
And with the knowledge, some kindness, patience, see
We will help our children, happy be,
As they wend their ways to their destiny.

I learned a lot coming to the "Know Your Child" workshop and enjoyed interacting and learning from my group mates too. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is trying to learn a gentler, more engaged approach to parenting.
